Jackfruit Seeds Sambar, Mangalore Special

Its Jackfruit season for Happiest Ladies :) , Jackfruit dosa, Jackfruit idli, Jackfruit jam, Jackfruit Pie and many more. But what do you think about jackfruit seeds? Throw them away? No never. A tasty Sambar can be prepared from these jackfruit seeds mixed together with Mangalore cucmber.


Take the recipe:

Ingredients of Mangalore Special Jackfruit seeds sambar:
  • 7 to 8 Jackfruit seeds
  • One medium sized Mangalore cucumber
  • Grated coconuts
  • Sambar Powder
  • Tamarind water
  • Jaggery
  • Green chilli
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

Procedure of Mangalore Special Jackfruit seeds Rasam:

  • Remove the outer white cover of jackfruit seeds and wash them cleanly.

  • Slice Mangalore cucumber into small pieces . You can either remove the outside cover or keep them.
  • Take a pressure cooker and cook the seeds and sliced Mangalore cucumber. Keep them in separate vessel when you pressure cook them.

 1)Mangalore Cucumber                 2) Sliced Mangalore Cucumber     3)Boiled Mangalore 

  • Now take a vessel ,add little water into it. Add tamarind, jaggery, green chillies curry leaves and salt. 


  • Let it boil for about 5 to 10mins until you get a sweet sour flavour. 
  • Now add cooked seeds and Mangalore cucumber into the vessel. Let them boil well all together. 
  • Take a mixer jar to grind grated coconut and sambar powder to a fine paste. 
  • Now add this grinded masala to the vessel and let them boil for 5 more minutes.



Serve the sambar hot with hot rice.
