Turmeric: Beauty and Health Benefits

Turmeric (curcuma longa), an Indian Spice with origin of India.  Every Indian food right from breakfast to dinner recipes is cooked with a pinch of turmeric. You cannot taste the turmeric as it is, but it presence while cooking adds an awesome flavor and color to the food.

Apart from the flavor, addition of herb in the cooked food also has many health issues.  The spice has a wonderful yellowish color with amazing beauty and health benefits. This is the oldest Indian spice which has been used for both health and beauty purposes and from the age of great ancestors up to this day.  Also it is a part of decorating ladies in every traditional occasion and festivals without which the occasion is incomplete.

Let me point out how and why to use turmeric for beauty and health issues.

Health Benefits of Turmeric:

Turmeric for Cough and cold:

The herb is a very good medicine for the common cough and cold found in both elders and children. Add half of spoon of turmeric to a glass of hot milk. Make a practice of drinking turmeric milk before bedtime. Regular drinking reduces cough and cold and resists the occurrence.

The turmeric stick available in ayurvedic drug stores are very good inhalers for cough and cold. Burn the tip of the turmeric stick, you will find the turmeric air blowing out from it. Inhale this air directly to your nostrils as a inhaler. Inhale this air thrice in a day. This opens up blocked nose and ears entering deep into lungs clearing all the infections. Inhaling turmeric air gives wonderful relief from cough.

You can even fill this air by burning four to five sticks at the evening hours which prevents mosquito and keeps the house free from bacteria and spreads the warmth.

Turmeric for Cancer and Leukemia :

The presence of the bio active compounds like curcumin, the spice has amazing medicinal properties which help to prevent cancer and leukemia in children.

Addition of turmeric in your daily food reduces insulin levels controlling diabetes and cholesterol in the blood streams.

Turmeric aids the digestion and reduces the fatty agents present in the food.

Turmeric for Joint pains:The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric reduce rheumatoid arthritis 
osteoarthritis. The joints pain experienced usually in winters are relieved with the usage of turmeric in food.

The antibacterial, anti fungal agents in the spice raises the immunity level by enhancing power to the immune system.

Treatment for Pimples:

The antiseptic properties and the antibacterial properties of turmeric kill the entire germ causing acne and reduce inflammation breakouts. Along with reduction of acne it even glows skin and results a healthy complexion.

Turmeric Face pack for scars:

A smooth paste of turmeric and cold milk is an excellent treatment for scars caused by acne and burns. It even soothes skin keeping well moisturised and supple.

Turmeric for removing facial hair:

Mix a pinch of turmeric with thick cheese. Let the mixture form a very thick dry paste. Rub the mixture in the opposite direction of the hair growth especially over chin and upper lips. Follow this procedure regularly. It loosens the hair from their roots and reduces hair growth in the long run.

Turmeric for anti ageing:

Mix turmeric with yogurt and a multani mitti (Fillers earth). Apply this paste all over skin and neck and rinse with warm water. Turmeric being an exfoliating agent for skin reduces wrinkles and delays ageing.

Turmeric for glowing skin:

Turmeric mixed with sandalwood and milk is a wonderful medicine for glowing and healthy skin. It even reduces dark circles and pigmentation resulting an even skin tone. You can even find the soothing effect over the tanned skin.

Turmeric for wounds, burns and skin allergies:

Turmeric being an antiseptic has wonderful healing properties. Turmeric mixed with milk can be applied on wounds and burns in children and adults. Some skin allergies or infections, or the mosquito bite inflammations are relieved due to the medicinal properties of turmeric.

Turmeric for dead cell removal:

Mix a pinch of turmeric with spoon full of coconut oil. Massage your face gently by scrubbing under the nose and chin. Turmeric wipes all the dead cells and opens up the pores. They even lessen the black heads and give an spotless skin.

And at the end, any Hindu traditional feasts and festivals can be celebrated with the absence of Turmeric (Haldi) :)
