Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Temple of Karnataka
Sri Sharadamba Temple is one of the oldest and famous temples
of Karnataka established by Adi Shankara in 8th century. Sri Sharada
Devi is the main deity of Sringeri. This temple is located on the banks of
River Tunga, Chikmagalur Dustrict in Karnataka.
Devi/Goddess temples are most happening during Navaratri,
and so is Sringeri Sharadamba Temple. Many devotees visit this temple to name
their new born babies, to mark the beginning of the education of their
children, or any such other important occasions of life.
Apart from the main shrine of Devi Sharada, Sri
Vidyashankara Temple is another attraction within the temple premises.
Vidyashankara Temple is a beautiful temple with architectural structure of both
Hoysala and Dravidian style. Lord Vidya Ganapathi and Durga reside here. Also
there are shrines of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara.
Vidyashankar Temple has a very unique style of Vimanam
(temple tower)
Sringeri Sharda Temple Fish is of great importance. There are
huge fishes on the banks of the river near the
temple. Fishing here is banned. They are considered sacred. It is
customary for the devotees who visit the temple to feed these fishes with
puffed rice and baby toasts. The temple owns elephants too.

- Meals provided for all visiting devotees . Timings: Afterenoon - 12.15 to 2.30, Night - 7.15 to 8.30
- Sri Sharada Peetham Darshan Timings: Morning - 6.00 AM to 2.00 PM, Evening – 5.00 PM to 9.00 PM
- Plenty of lodges available for staying over night.Sringeri is around 300 km from Bangalore.
- The nearest airport is Mangalore which is about 100 km.
