This summer, I happened to attend a Kannada Wedding in Sringeri. The glimpses I got makes me want to attend more and more wedding ceremonies across all the Indian parts, both pre and post events are equally exciting and entertaining.

From the simplest wedding to the extravaganza luxurious marriage arrangements, all kinds of Indian weddings have their own speciality. Some with loads of rituals, some with lots of happenings, some others with loads of singing and dancing, some with never ending buffet, or some with the simplest lunch but the extremely traditional local cuisine which you will get nowhere; every Indian wedding is pulled off as the most memorable one.

It all begins with the specially decorated mandap. The decorations vary with the couple’s choice.

Muhurtha – The Big Moment

The Muhurtha, which is the special time to be bound for the lifetime. The garland exchange happens amidst all the elders and near family members.

The long customs and rituals

Coconuts, beetel leaves, flowers, rice, haldi-kumkum, are the common things involved in the traditional rituals of the marriage ceremony.
