If you are in a hurry to cover several things in your day’s itinerary, then there is no point in visiting the place. You will need a couple of hours to make sure that the stories revolving around this historic temple built by one of the famous dynasties that ruled Karnataka, sinks into your feelings.

Few basic information before you set out on the trip in real -
  • If you have already visited Belur and Halebidu, the best amongst all the present day’s legendary Hoysala temples, please do not compare Somanathapura’s Keshava Temple to the temples at Belur and Halebidu. Every Hoysala temple is beautiful in its own way.
  • The temple was built in the year 1268 AD. It was initiated by a commander/general in the army of Hoysala then.
  • The temple is filled with numerous carvings and sculptures made of shiny soapstones.
The experience is very different when you see it in person standing close to the beautifully carved figurines, rather than just watching the pictures in this blog here.
