According to Hindu mythology, it is believed on this Naraka Chaturdasi Lord Krishna defeated Narakasura and freed all the prince and princesses who were under Narakasura’s slavery. Lord Krishna offered them oil bath and gifted them with new silk cloths and ornaments as the sign of independence and happiness. This is the true reason behind wearing new cloths on this festival.
