How to Plan One-Day Trip to Kotagiri in the Nilgiris | Leisure Relaxing Trip to Kotagiri
What
actually is leisure relaxing? The real meaning varies from person to person. It
all depends on the travellers’ choice.
For us, it
is being totally lazy and kill time at the spots where we reach easily without
much effort. NO trekking, NO hiking, NO running from one tourist spot to
another, NO hurrying to cover up and get snapped at all the local attractions,
NO mad crowd of tourists posing for photos. NO selfie zone.
Lots of ‘NO’
in our basic trip planning. It is because we are on a holiday just to keep for
ourselves. It is usually a family tour with kids involved who command the day
at their own will and mood. NO adjustments, adults please make it a habit to
adjust to whatever is possible and available in your day’s itinerary.
Kodanadu
View Point
Toda Temple
of the tribes of the Nilgiris
The arch
shaped structure made of straws and mud thatch with tiny 2-feet door is a
unique ancient structure which the Toda people rightly claim as their place of worship.
The bull
shaped sign at the entrance and the repeated motifs across the structure brings
more curiosity to tourists.
Catherine
Water Falls View Point
Reaching this view point is a unique experience in itself.
The view
point is stunning as one gets to see the deep valley created by the surrounding
mountains.
From in between these mountains, one can view the waterfalls.
Monsoon season gives a spectacular scene of the gushing water down the hill.
Watch the view down the view point and the scenic beauty here at the video.

Walk through
the mesmerizing Tea Estate
Never has
the path in between the tea shrubs been so neat and well organized. The walk path
is even perfect for toddlers.
The shades of green all around are magical.
Spend time with workers who are engaged in the collection of tea leaves.

To name a
few more spots that involve hike, trek and history of Kotagiri are –
- visit Longwood Shola amidst the forest (get your permission from the forest department to drive/trek through the forest area),
- a peek into
the history at John Sullivan Memorial,
- enjoy the water at Elk Falls (preferably during monsoon),
- a refreshing dip at Catherine Water Falls (best during monsoon)
- Apart from enjoying the view of Rangaswamy Peak from the Kodanadu View Point which is almost at similar altitude, one can also trek to Rangaswamy Peak from the base point which is at a much lower lower altitude. To reach to the starting point of the trek, one has to traverse through Keel Kotagiri – Devar Shoola estates.
With so many opportunities to trek till the brim of your satisfaction, or just chill and relax in the cool pleasant climate, Kotagiri is THE DESTINATION for people of all ages to enjoy at their own wish and will.
