Green Gram Rasam/Soup
Green gram is good for health. And well boiled green gram is
one of the best means to bring the thickness in rasam, sambar or even side
dishes with gravy.
Today’s recipe is a very mild rasam recipe without much
spicy or tongue kicking taste. When you are not doing too great in your health,
then this is the best choice along with hot rice.
- 1 cup green gram
- 1 lemon sized jaggery.
- 3 - 4 inch ginger piece
- Coriander leaves.
- Half sliced lemon.
- Asafetida/hing
- 1 big green chilli.
- Salt as per taste.
- For seasoning: sesame seeds, 1 red chilli, half spoon homemade ghee.
Rasam Recipe:
- Boil the green gram with some water. Preferably soak the green gram in water for some time before boiling. Soaking will speed up the boiling and save fuel.
- Once the green gram is boiled considerably, slit the green chilli and add it to the vessel.
- Also add jaggery, hand crushed ginger, hing and salt. Continue heating over low flame for few more minutes until jaggery dissolves and all other tastes blend well together.
- Now, add chopped coriander leaves and allow the flame for another one minute.
- Once the flame is put off, squeeze the lemon juice.
- For seasoning, fry sesame and red chilli in ghee and add it to the rasam.
Serve with hot steaming rice.
