Green Gram Payasa, sweet on 100th post !!
It is time for sweets here on Happiest Ladies. The occasion is
100 posts!!!! Yes, this is the 100th
post, and so Green Gram Payasa for all of you. :).
What is Payasa?
Payasa is Indian dessert. A sweet dish which comprises mainly
of jaggery syrup and coconut milk. The base for the payasa is cooked in dilute
coconut milk. Here, the base is green gram/ moong dal/ hesaru bele.
- Green gram 2 cups
- One full coconut.
- Jaggery 2 cups
- Cashew pieces, cardamom powder, cloves.
- A pinch of salt.
Dessert Recipe:
- Soak green gram in water and keep aside.
- Grate one whole coconut and grind it in mixer with some water.
- Pour the grinded coconut on a sieve and extract the milk. This is concentrated coconut milk.
- Now add some more water to the residue of the grinded coconut and squeeze out the milk. This is diluted coconut milk.
- Now, in a vessel add the green gram and diluted coconut milk and boil over low flame.
- When the green gram is half boiled, add jaggery and continue boiling over low flame.
- In between, add cashew pieces, cardamom powder and cloves.
- When the green gram is completely boiled, add the concentrated coconut milk and heat for just about a minute and put off the flame.
- Then add a pinch of salt to remove the suppleness of the payasa.
Top the payasa with a few drops of homemade ghee before
serving.
