Adiyogi Shiva in Coimbatore TN - Must See World's Largest Bust Statue
Lucky are those souls who have the
luxury to travel anytime they want. People who are travel freaks and are always
looking for doing road trips and staycations have a passionate thing in their
hearts to just hit the roads. We are a lucky bunch of people too. We plan quick
and short weekend trips too frequently.
This time around for us, the
destination was Coimbatore, the famous name when it comes to South India’s big
cities and business centres. Though a city with very busy streets, buzzing
population, tall buildings and shopping malls, Coimbatore now is a popular name
when it comes to listing down the places with high statues in India.
Staying at Coimbatore can be done in luxury since there are numerous hotels offering world class amenities. We decided to check-in at Hotel Kiscol Grands, one of the best designed for comfort and convenience.
Food and stay can never be a problem
for anyone in this bustling city.
Adiyogi - large bust sculpture of Shiva
What makes this city world famous is
the large bust sculpture of Lord Shiva. The statue is built with an intention
to inspire and promote yoga, thus the name of this huge statue of Shiva as
Adiyogi, which means ‘the first yogi’. Shiva is known to be the originator of
yoga.
This massive structure with divine and
peaceful facial expression is such bliss to watch with blue sky all above and
surrounded by Velliangiri mountain range. The scenic mountain range adds to the
spiritual beauty of this statue.
A small sheltered place provides space to offer pooja to Yogeshwara linga stituated near the base of Adiyogi Shiva in the foreground. Offering holy water to this linga is a sight and offers perfect ambience to meditate in divine silence.

Designed and built by Isha Foundation,
this is an incredible place to be visited in India. This 112-foot-high bust of
Adiyogi Shiva statue is one of its kind, thus has made into the Guinness World
Record.
A walk through the Isha Yoga Centre
At a short distance away from Adiyogi
statue is the Isha Yoga Centre. A fun and jolly bullock cart ride will take you
to and fro Adiyogi and Isha Yoga Centre.
Isha Yoga Centre Ashram is a vast
complex that houses several special kind of temples – Dhyanalingam, Linga Bhairavi,
the teerthakund, large panel sculpture of Trimurti, Nandi bull that is about to
take off and many more.
The worshipping linga at Dhyanalingam
temple is very huge and everyone who enters here must observe silence. Kids are
not allowed in. Every attempt is made to feel the spiritual energy here.
People seeking spiritual experiences,
rejuvenating mind and body and a retreat for yoga and meditation stay here for
longer period of time. Some also offer to volunteer.
For a class of people like us who want
an excuse to escape somewhere over the weekend, a walk through the Isha Yoga
Centre definitely makes us realize that we aren’t spending enough time on
self-care and well-being.
