Planting Seeds - EVS Activity/School Project
"Let's get to know how the seeds grow," this was my child's EVS activity. He was asked to observe the seeds germination process. He took some papaya seeds and started with his school project. Any seed can be chosen like coriander , fenugreek, mustard, green gram or any vegetable seeds. It was really interesting to watch the seeds growing into seedlings and then into small plants.
How to grow papaya seeds in a pot?
- Scrape out the seeds from the ripened papaya fruit.
- Wash them clean and keep them for drying may be for 2 to 3 days. If the seeds are moist they get decayed and spoilt.
- Sow the seeds in a pot filled with mud. Sprinkle water just enough to keep the mud moist.
- Place the pot where the sunlight is enough for the seeds to grow. Keep sprinkling water twice or thrice in a day.
- After 10 to 15 days you will find some seeds have grown into seedlings and some still in the sprout stage.
- Follow the same steps of watering and keep them in bright sunlight.
- After 2 weeks you will find the small plants with green leaves spreading around.
- Now its time to gently transfer the tiny plants to the ground without damaging the roots.
- Water them daily and wait for the plant to grow :)
This was not just a school activity. It brought interest in planting trees in young generation thus contributing greenery to our environment.
