How To Deseed Corn Kernels At Home? - Video

 Corn is one of the most loved vegetables and cereal grains. This starchy vegetable is rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and nutrients and consumed all over the world in different forms. In India, corn cobs are roasted on charcoal or stovetop and eaten as a yummy snack. 


Deseeding Corn kernels

Corn kernels are separated and made into many dishes. Although there are readily available frozen corn kernels in the market you can even deseed them at home without any tools. My intention is to avoid packed and stored food items, so I prefer to deseeding myself which makes the food fresh and healthy. 

Deseeding corn kernels from the cob is not a tough job, you only require a tablespoon or a fork and your work is done within 10minutes. 

I have taken two sweet corn here.

Steps to Deseed corn kernels

  • Pressure cook sweet corn cob for 3 whistles.
  • Once they have achieved room temperature, take a clean spoon/fork.
  • From the backside of the spoon, slowly push the kernels upwards. The kernels get loosened and easily separated.  Continue this way and remove one row completely. 
  • This first step may take a few minutes but do not hurry, and make it a mess.
  • Once you have cleaned one row, now push the adjacent row kernels towards the empty space and go on. 
  • Yes, the kernels have been separated for the cob. So easily and cleanly.
  • Use them to make spicy chaat or soup or any corn dishes.
